【発明の詳細な説明】
微小曲げ力に応答する光ファイバ・ケーブル技 術 分 野
本発明は、光ファイバを経由する光の透過の際のいわゆる周期的外乱によりケー
ブル内のファイバに影響を及ぼすことによって圧力を検出する、微小曲げ力に応
答する光ファイバ・ケーブルに関する。
背 景 技 術
透過光が周期的に乱されるように、ガラスまたはプラスチックスの材料で作られ
た光ファイバに圧力を作用させることによって圧力を検出する前述の原理は、例
えば、米国特許第4.163.397号、スウェーデン特許第410 521号
および欧州特許第008 2820号に記載しであるのが見られる。欧州特許第
008 2820号によれば、光ファイバの周りにフィラメントまたはワイヤを
らせん状に巻き付けることによってこの周期的外乱が生成され、その後フィラメ
ントとファイバとの構造体の周りに外側被覆が配設される。ファイバを経て光が
透過され、同時に被覆が圧力を受けると、この圧力がワイヤのらせんを更に偏平
にしようとする。ファイバ内にはこのように一連の周期的臼げが生成され、それ
らの各々がらせんの半ピツチに対応する。この結果、ファイバを通過する光は減
衰され、それを、例えば光電センサによつτ表示することができる。光の減衰に
は、各種のファイバ・パラメタが影響を及ぼす。放物線状の屈折率曲線を示すフ
ァイバの場合、周期的外乱は最大の減衰を生ずる臨界内w4長さを有する。この
周期長さは次式の如く表わされる。

発 明 の 開 示
欧州特許第008 2810号による前述の周知の装置に関する一つの問題点は
、フィラメントの直径がファイバ(d〜0.31)のそれと同じである場合、フ
ィラメントは、それがファイバの周りにらせん状に巻かれているため、ケーブル
の寸法を不相応に大きくさせる。これはある用途、例えば、用意されたファイバ
を組み込んだケーブルを見えないように秘匿しようとする場合、または狭い通路
を通ってケーブルが引かれる場合には望ましくない。さらに、フィラメントのら
せんのピッチによって外乱が定められるような場合に、正確に画定された周期性
を得ることは困難である。
本発明の目的は、ケーブルが圧力を受ける際、周期的外乱に安定性をもたらす簡
単な構成要素で周期的外乱が得られるようにした、圧力を測定するケーブルを提
供することにある。
本発明によるケーブルは、請求の範囲に述べる特徴を有する。

第3図は本発明によるケーブルの第三実施例を示す。
発明の実施の最良の形態
第1図は、ケーブルのケーシングHに加えられる圧力Pを検出する本発明による
ケーブルの断面図である。圧力Pは、集中するものでも、ケーシング目上に一様
に分布するものでも良い。このケーブル内に組み込まれた光ファイバは、コアC
と、コア被覆Mと、コア被覆の屈折率よりその屈折率がやや高くなるように選ば
れるようにした周囲の層H1いわゆる第一シールド、とを含む。
ファイバ・ケーブルの一端には光源が匝かれ、他方その他端には観光素子(図示
せず)が配設され、光は、所与のモード分布を有するファイバFを経由して透過
される。光源と素子とをファイバの一方の同じ端に置き、その他端に反射体を配
設することもできる。各モードにおける屈折力の一部が他のモード、なかでも放
射モード、に結合され、その結果1.伝送される屈折力が減少される、という事
実により、圧力Pの増大はモードの大きな減衰をもたらす。この減少は、感光素
子により、適宜の方法で表示することができる。
前述のモード間の結合を達成するため、機械的外乱がファイバ内に導入される。
グラス・ファイバの場合この外乱は第一シールドH(第1図)に圧力Pを作用さ
せることによって導入でき、他方プラスチック・ファイバの場合には、コア被I
Mに圧力Pを直接に作用させれば充分である。外乱は、ファイバの周期的変形を
生成するようにされる。この外乱は、2本のねじれたフィラメントT、T2を含
む二重フィラメント構造体の形をなす細長い変形されたフィラメント要素により
、第1図によるケーブル内に組み込まれたファイバ内に生成される。フィラメン
トは、第一シールドHに圧力Pが加えられた場合、多少の範囲でも互いに軸方向
に移動しないように、比較的かたくねじられている。二重フィラメント構造体T
、T2はコア被覆Cに対して小さい離隔した接触面Y、Y2を導入し、それらが
所与の周期性旦を以て反復される。従って、ファイバ・コアを通る光の最適減衰
は、所与の寸法、即ちd−へ=2πa/(2D> の時のファイバによって得ら
れる。この実施例にあっては、二重フィラメント構造体T 、T2がファイバに
沿って真っ直に且つそれと平行に置かれる。
第2図に示すケーブルの実施例にあっては、前記のねじれたフィラメントを含む
二重フィラメント構造体T1゜T2が、ファイバFの周りにらせん状に巻かれる
。第1図の実施例の場合と同、しく、フィラメント構造体の全長に沿って所与の
周期亘を有する小さい接触面Y1.Y2が得られる。この実施例にあっては、フ
ィラメント構造体T、T2の所与の変形によりコア被覆Mへの圧力の作用が確保
されるので、ファイバの周りの種々の方向から、周りのコア被覆Mに圧力Pを向
けることができる。
フィラメント構造体T、T2の寸法、即ちケーシングHとファイバFとの間の間
隔は、ファイバの断面寸法と同程度でなければならない。これによってフィラメ
ント構造体をファイバFの周りに更に大きいピッチで巻き付けることができ、臨
界距離d=へはらせんのピッチに依存しない。
第3図に示す実癌例にあっては、長手方向の変形要素が、ファイバの周りに巻ぎ
付けられた硬質または弾性のねじれたバンドBを含む。このように、バンドがコ
ア被iMに当接する位置に離隔した接触面Y、Y2が形成され、これらの離隔し
た面が周期的な距離(CI−Δ)を生成する。
本発明によるケーブル構造は、光ファイバの周りに長手方向に延びる細長い構成
要素が、前記構成要素のファイバの接触と同時に周期的外乱が生じ得るように当
初に、最初から、変形されるという点で、先行技術の構造と弁別される。ここに
(qられる利点は、ケーブルのケーシングとファイバとの間に外乱生成質素を配
設する際に更に大きな自由度が得られる点と、その上に、それが圧力検出装置と
して用いられる場合、ケーブル全体の断面寸法を減少させる更に大きな可能性と
である。

Claims (5)
- 1.少なくとも1本のフアイバを含み且つ圧力に応答する装置の一部を形成する 微小曲げ力に応答する光フアイバ・ケーブルにおいて、ケーブルの一端に位置す る放射源がフアイバに光を入射し且つその他端でセンサがフアイバを経て透過さ れる光の強度を測定し、前記圧力に応答するフアイバの少なくとも一部分に沿つ て周期的外乱を導入する少なくとも一つの長手方向に延びる構成要素がケーブル ・ケーシング(H)とフアイバ(F)との間に配設されるようにした光フアイバ ・ケーブルにおいて、フアイバ(F)に沿つて軸方向に延びる構成要素(T1) ・(T2)・(B)がその長さの全体または一部に沿つて前記フアイバに当接し 且つフアイバ被覆の表面に沿つて離隔した接触面(Y1)、(Y2)が生成され るように形成され、これらの接触面の相互間隔(d)が周期的外乱の周期長さ( ∧)を形成するようにしたことを特徴とする光フアイバ・ケーブル。
- 2.請求の範囲第1項に記載のケーブルにおいて、前記構成要素が2本のねじれ たフイラメント(二重フイラメント構造体)(T1).(T2)を含み、各フイ ラメントのフアイバ被覆の表面との当接により前記接触面(Y1),(Y2)が 形成されるようにしたことを特徴とするケーブル。
- 3.請求の範囲第1項に記載のケーブルにおいて、前記構成要素が、フアイバ被 覆の表面との当接の際に前記接触面(Y1),(Y2)を形成するように軸方向 にねじられたバンド(B)を含むようにしたことを特徴とするケーブル。
- 4.請求の範囲第1項から第3項に記載のケーブルにおいて、前記構成要素(T 1),(T2),(B)がフアイバ(F)と平行に延びるようにしたことを特徴 とするケーブル。
- 5.請求の範囲第1項から第3項に記載のケーブルにおいて、前記構成要素(T 1),(T2),(B)がフアイバ(F)の周りにらせん形に形成されるように したことを特徴とするケーブル。
