Abstract

PURPOSE:To prepare soft ferrous sintered parts high in processing preciseness, by a method wherein heat treatment is applied to a soft ferrous sintered material in steam to form a film comprising iron oxide in the void thereof and the treated sintered material is subjected to cutting processing. CONSTITUTION:A soft ferrous sintered material containing about 1% or less P, about 0.3% or less C and about 2% or less Cu and having density of about 6.4-7.5g/cm<3> is subjected to heat treatment in steam to form a film comprising iron oxide such as Fe2O3 in the void thereof. By this treatment, the obtained soft ferrous sintered material is increased in rigidity without deteriorating cutting property thereof while becoming hardly torn off in cutting and becomes hardly distortional against external force and, therefore, it can be subjected to cutting processing in good preciseness to be formed into parts having thin wall parts.
