Description
【発明の詳細な説明】
最近のマイコン、パソコンの普及に伴しＡ１画像表示機
器の平面化への研究がさかんに行なわれているが、その
内液晶による表示装置は、受光型であることによる低消
費電力という特長を活し有力な手段のひとつである。

この液晶表示装置をより小形でコンパクトな構造とする
ために、その駆動回路基板とパネルとの接続にフレキシ
ブルな接続用テープを用いパネルと駆動回路基板とを積
層構造にして、平面的な拡がりを防ぐ例は、多々ありそ
の１例を第１図に示す。

第１図においては、パネルの上基板１の透明導電膜の配
線面２を下にして液晶層４をはさんでパネルの下基板７
をシール剤１０により密着させ、さらにその下に反射板
８と駆動回路実装基板９を重ね、上基板１の配線面２に
ある接続用バッド３からフレキシブル配線テープ５によ
り基板９に接続する状態を示している。

このような構造において形状はコンパクトにはなり得る
が、基板９と上基板１を接続した後では、上基板側の接
続部３がテープ５によりかくれてしまい実装工程におけ
る検査や製品となった状態でのサービス性に大きな問題
がある。

このような欠点を無くすための本発明の実施３例を第２
図に示す。ｆｓ２図は第１図のＡ方向から見た平面図で
あり、上基板１より大きな回路実装基板９を設け、上基
板側の接続パッド３に対向する基板９に穴１１をあけ接
続部を明視できるようにしたものである。

以上のような実施例により回路実装基板９もしくは接続
用テープ５のいずれかに接続用パッド３に対応した穴を
あけることにより、接続部３を装置の分解をせずに検査
・修理が可能となり、品質の向上、サービス性の向上に
寄与する。

また液晶表示装置においては、液晶層と反射板との距離
を小さくしないと、液晶層の表示パターンの影が発生し
表示品質を低下させる問題があり、その対応策として反
射板側のパネル基板を薄くする方法が一般的である。し
かしながらパネル基板の一方が薄膜スイッチング素子を
集積したマトリックス配Ｓ形パネル基板においては、そ
の製造工程上の問題・から基板厚みを薄くすることは難
かしく、従ってその対向基板を薄くして反射板を取り付
け、信号の入力はマトリックス配線基板に行う構造とな
り図−１の構成となり、本発明の効果が期待できる。

- 透明導電膜を有するパネル基板間に液晶を介在してなる
液晶表示パネルと、その駆動回路基板および両者を接続
する接続用テープとからなる液晶表示装置において、該
パネルに設けられた接続用パッドに対面する駆動回路基
板もしくは接続用テープに穴をあけたことを特徴とする
液晶表示装置
