Abstract

PURPOSE: To perform efficient heating without necessity of any supplemental fuel, by using a heat source obtained by utilization of a heat pump process using purified sewage as a low-temperature heat source.
CONSTITUTION: A heat pump mainly constructed by a compressor 13', an evaporator 20, a condenser 21 and an expansion valve 22 driven by a gas engine 14 using digestion gas from a digesting vessel 3 as fuel, is used. A coolant 23, which is heat-exchanged with the low-temperature heat of purified sewage 24 in the evaporator 20, is compressed by the compressor 13', fed to the condenser 21, expanded by the expansion valve 22 and then fed to the evaporator 20. On the other hand, the interior of the condenser 21 is heated by feeding relatively low-temperature hot water 7' from the sludge heat exchanger 8' of a sludge thickener 25, further heated in a heat exchanger 17 by cooling water from the engine 14, and still further reheated in a heat exchanger 19 by exhaust gas 18 from the engine 14. The resultant hot water 7 is fed into the heat exchanger 8' of the thickenner 25 to heat and concentrate the sludge.
