Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the performance of a heat exchanger by a method wherein the winding diameter of a helical pipe is varied alternatively and the arrangement of a double cylindrical wound pipe is zig-zag formed so as to cause a temperature interface layer at the upstream part of the pipe to hardly be effected to the downstream thereof.
CONSTITUTION: Fluid flowed into the pipe at the upper coupling 6 is divided into two flows, passed through a helical pipe 4 having a large diameter and a helical pipe 5 having a small diameter, then flowed out. Fluid flowed outside of the helical pipes 4, 5 is flowed into the heat exchanger at a mouthpiece 8 of the end plate 3 and flowed down within the inner cylinder 2, reversed at a place where it is reached to the lower end plate 3, flowed up among the outer cylinder 1, inner cylinder 2, the helical pipe 4 with a large diameter and the helical pipe 5 with a small diameter and then finally flowed out. Since the pipe is arranged in a zig-zag form, less influence of the temperature interface layer 4 formed by the upstream pipe is found for the downstream when the fluid is flowed outside of the helical pipes 4 and 5, and thus no decrease of an efficiency of thermal conductivity is occured.
