Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a cutting edge capable of easily cutting a tape hard to cut and having a long life by grinding an alloy made of WC having a specified grain size and contg. a specified percentage each of Co and TaC.
CONSTITUTION: A composition consisting of, by wt., 15W30% Co, 2W5% TaC and the balance WC having ≤0.6μm average grain size is formed into the shape of a cutting edge used to cut metallic and nonmetallic materials. The formed body is ground, sintered at 600W1,200°C, and ground. Thus, a cutting edge with about 87W91 hardness and very high toughness is obtd.
