Abstract

PURPOSE: To recover the titled substance, by subjecting a mixed solution comprising methanol, water and methyl methacrylate to azeotropic distillation in the presence of specific saturated hydrocarbons, so that the whole amount of methanol is distilled from the top of a rectifying column and water is taken out from a decanter at the bottom of the column.
CONSTITUTION: In carrying out the titled purification by distilling a mixed solution comprising methanol (20W85wt%), water (2W15wt%) and methyl methacrylate (5W65wt%), 6W7C saturated hydrocarbons are made to exist only in parts higher than the feed plate of the mixed solution, so that the saturated hydrocarbons and the whole amount of methanol are distilled from the top of the column and water is taken out from the liquid at the bottom of the column by a decanter to recover methyl methacrylate. The distillate from the top of the column is subjected to layer separation, the methanol layer is distilled, methanol is taken out from the bottom of the column, the saturated hydrocarbons and part of methanol are recovered from the top of the column and returned to the layer separating tank again.
