Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable the stable and continuous distillation separation of unreacted raw materials in the preparation of 2-ethylhexenal, and to recover the unreacted raw materials easily, by maintaining the water-content of the bottom liquid of the distillation column above a specific level, thereby keeping the temperature of the bottom at a low level.
CONSTITUTION: The reaction product obtained by the dehydration condensation of n-butylaldehyde in the reactors A and B is separated into oil and water, and the oil layer is fed to the first distillation column D. The distillation is performed keeping the water-content in the bottom liquid at ≥2wt% (esp. 2W5wt%), and a mixture containing unreacted n-butylaldehyde is distilled out from the top of the column. At least a part of the distillate is recycled to the dehydration condensation stage. The bottom liquid of the distillation column D is fed to the second distillation column G, and distilled under a pressure of 50W300mmHg to obtain the titled material from the top, and the liquid containing high-boiling components in high concentration from the bottom of the column. If necessary, the bottom is fed to the third distillation column J, and distilled under a pressure of 10W100mmHg to recover the remaining objective compound from the top.
