PURPOSE:To set the zero point of roll gap accuratly, by rotating reduction screws for horizontal and vertical rolls by an actuator, being independent of a rolling motor for the respective reduction screws, so as to load the rolls, within the area of straight line part of the mill rigidity curve. CONSTITUTION:Reduction screws for horizontal rolls and vertical rolls of a bar rolling mill, e.g. a screw 4 for horizontal rolls is driven to actuate a rolling system in the direction of screw down, inversely to the direction of roll releasing, by a torque actuator 13 independently of a rolling motor 11. To the level of a determined standard load, belonging to the limits of straight line part of the mill rigidity curve, is loaded on the roll by this action. Thus, the setting accuracy of the zero point of roll gap is extremely improved.
