Abstract
PURPOSE:To enable the smooth starting of a synchronous machine and the protection of a thyristor by reducing the output current of a thyristor inverter for starting and the exciting current of the machine at the initial time of the starting. CONSTITUTION:When a synchronous machine 1 is started by a thyristor inverter 3, the exciting current of the machine 1 is set at 50% of the no load rated voltage during the intermittent commutation period such as at the initial of the starting, and the output current of the inverter 3 is set at 50% of the rated value. After the rotating speed of the machine 1 is accelerated and becomes natural commutation state, the respective currents are returned to the rated values. In this manner, the magnetic saturation of a main transformer 4 is avoided, the smooth starting of the machine is performed, and the thermal damage of the thyristor due to overcurrent flowing through the inverter 3 can be prevented.
