Abstract

The brushless synchronous generator, for welders, has its stator slots (41) larger than the winding cross-section. The stator slots in the region away from the rotor (1) hold the stator winding (5) whilst those near the rotor are designed are designed to accept parts forming a magnetic shunt circuit. The advantage lies in the main magnetic flux's being able - independently of the position of the magnetic shunt path - to close over the stator teeth so that the no-load voltage is practically constant and the welding current can be adjusted by moving the shunt circuit parts in the slots.
