Abstract
PURPOSE:To enhance the developing characteristics of a magnetic toner by treating magnetic powder with a compound capable of coordinating to metal or metallic ions in the powdr so as to make the powder uniform and to enhance the dispersibility. CONSTITUTION:Magnetic powder having 0.1-1mum primary particles size such as triiron tetraoxide powder, iron sesquioxide powder or Cr powder is prepared. To a suitable solvent such as water, methanol or methyl ethyl ketone is added a compound capable of coordinating to metal or metallic ions in the powder such as piperidine, pyridine, tertiary-butylsalicylic acid or EDTA by 0.01-30wt% to the amount of the powder. The powder is added to this soln. and agitated with heating. The resulting magnetic powder is added to a binder resin by 20- 70wt%, kneaded, pulverized, and classified to obtain a magnetic toner.
