Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare feed from cheap raw materials, by adding sugar, etc. to wood chips, heating and grinding the mixture together with water, and treating the product with microorganisms collected from the rumen.
CONSTITUTION: Molasses, etc. are added to wood chips in an autoclave 2, and the water-content is adjusted to about 50%. Steam is blasted into the autoclave to heat the content above the softening point of lignin and soften the wood chips. The content is then ground with a grinder 5, mixed in the fermentor 6 with the microorganisms collected from the rumen of cattle, and treated anaerobically at about 38°C. The product is mixed with artificial saliva containing sodium bicarbonate, urea, etc., stirred, and adjusted to about pH 6W7. A part of the treated product is circulated to the grinder 5, and the major part is dried with the drier 12 to obtain the objective feed.
