Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a small sized and inexpensive plate-like polarizing and separating element by providing an optial waveguide plate having the shape wherein a thin plate of a transparent material of large double refraction is cut at the two planes respectively perpendicular to the thin plate surface and forming a constant angle with each other. CONSTITUTION:One end of an optical fiber 2 is in contact oppositely with the focus on one side of a lensfreflection type condenser waveguide plate 1 so that the light from the fiber 2 is made to parallel light. One side of the long sides of the triangular sides of the condenser waveguide 1 is in contact with one side of a Far aday rotor. The Faraday rotator uses a Y1G connecting means for long wavelength and is provided with a phase adjusting film. An analyzer 3a of a polarizing and separating element and a reflection type condenser waveguide plate, that is, reflection mirror 1a as well as an optical fiber 2a are joined successively to the parallel sides of the Farady rotor 4 and these are made into one body. The optical waveguide plate is made smaller in size by constituting the polarizing and separating element in this way.
