Abstract

PURPOSE: To make it possible to add a large quantity of polystyrene foam particles, by employing a specified urethane prepolymer in the titled production of heat-insulating materials which comprises charging polystyrene foam particles into a polyurethane solution and expansion-molding the mixture.
CONSTITUTION: A polyether-polyol obtained by addition polymerization of an organic compound having at least two active hydrogen atoms, e.g., ethylene glycol, and an alkylene oxide, e.g., ethylene oxide, is reacted with a polyisocyanate, e.g., tolylene diisocyanate, to form a urethane prepolymer containing 5W35wt% free isocyanato groups. Next, the prepolymer is blended with polystyrene foam particles, average particle size 1W10mm, in amounts to provide a weight ratio of 2:1W1:5. The resulting mixture is placed in a mold having a desired shape and then foamed and cured by blowing in steam.
