Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce a steel stock having a specified structure and excellent in cold workability by a method wherein a steel containing C, Mn, Cr, Si, P, S and Al in specified ratios is rolled and cooled in specified conditions. CONSTITUTION:A steel containing 0.08-0.65% of C, 0.30-1.2% of Mn, up to 0.5% of Cr, 0.15-0.60% of Si, up to 0.030% of P, up to 0.10% of S and up to 0.10% of Al, the balance being Fe and unavoidable impurities, is soaked at 900-1,050 deg.C and is hot rolled, followed by finish rolling at 680-900 deg.C. Then, it is quenched and held at 400-550 deg.C until the transformation is completed. Accordingly, a steel stock having a two-phase structure, which consists of fine ferrite and pearlite with a lamellar spacing of not larger than 200mum, and excellent workability in cold drawing and cold extrusion is produced.
