Abstract

PURPOSE: To correctly set reduction position in the initial stage of rolling and to improve productivity, by obtaining differential currents between actual load currents and a set load current of rolling mills, and controlling reduction apparatus so that the differential current may become zero.
CONSTITUTION: A load current IA of a rolling mill 1a is detected and a difference ΔI between the load current IA and a set load current IO previously obtained in relation to a target reduction position is calculated. Then, a signal ΔSC proportional to the differential current ΔI is outputted to a rolling control device 1b, and the rolling control device 1b is controlled and the roll opening of the rolling mill 1a is adjusted in the direction in which the differential current ΔI becomes zero. Therefore, as the roll opening is adjusted, a closed loop control system for constantly controlling the the load current of the roll is formed by changing the load current IA of a main motor 1C.
