Abstract

PURPOSE: To eliminate the off-gauges from the top and bottom ends of the strip, by simultaneously controlling the strip thickness and its tension to respective aimed values on the run-out side of each stand.
CONSTITUTION: The tracking device 9 receives the pulse count from the pulse generator 7 of each of stands No.1WNo.5 and the load variation signal from the load cell 8, detects the biting or the drop-out of the bottom end of the strip, and gives a timing command to the roll gap presetter 11 and the speed presetter 13. The presetters 11 and 13, when receiving this timing command, give the previously determined roll position command and speed command to the roll position controller 10 and the speed controller 12 of a necessary stand. The roll position controller 10 alters the roll gap of the necessary stand. The speed controller 12 alters the speed of motor 6 of the necessary stand. By these actions, the roll gap and the motor speed are placed under control, and the strip thickness is controlled while preventing the generation of off-gauges of the strip at biting the top end and at sending out the bottom end.
