Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the production of an annular current at the turn-ON time of a switching element by firing the switching element only in one polarity corresponding to the positive or negative going of AC current. CONSTITUTION:A comparator 11 compares a triangular wave signal with an AC voltage to produce signals (b), (c) while allows to produce two signals (e), (f) from a current direction detector 13 based on the signal (d) detected by a current detector 12. AND circuit 14, 15 produce signals (b), (e) and (c), (f), (g), (h). Gate amplifiers 16, 17 turn ON thyristors 1, 2 in synchronization with the rise of the signals (g), (h). Gate amplifiers 16, 17 turn ON the thyristors 1, 2 in synchronization with the rises of the signals (g), (h), and turns OFF the thyristors in synchronization with the fall of the signals. In this manner, the firing control of the thyristors 1, 2 can be carried out, and accordingly, no annular current will be produced.
