Abstract

PURPOSE:To shorten the time of discharge in an ignition plug for reducing the consumption of electrodes by lessening the amount of energy to be transmitted to the secondary winding by a method in which magnetic flux generated in the primary winding of an ignition coil is reduced immediately before ignition. CONSTITUTION:Energy to be transmitted to the secondary side of an ignition coil 2 is proportional to magnetic lux interlinking with the secondary winding 2c. Accordingly, the reduction of magnetic flux generated by the primary winding results in the decrease in energy to be transmitted to the secondary side and also in energy to be acted on discharge, whereby shortening the time of discharge in the ignition plug. Since the directions of magnetic fields generated by the primary windings 2a and 2b are contrary to each other, magnetic flux to be effective becomes a difference in the magnetic flux to be generated by the windings 2a and 2b. Thus, by controlling the current value of any one of the primary windings, the control on the energy to be transmitted to the secondary winding is made possible.
