Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain homogeneous foam at a low temp. by adding a mixture of alkali silicate with zeolite to a mixture of glass powder with a foaming agent and heating them to a prescribed temp.
CONSTITUTION: Powder of ordinary glass such as soda lime glass or borosilicate glass is mixed with a foaming agent such as sodium carbonate or calcium carbonate. This mixture is blended with a mixture of alkali silicate with zeolite, and the blend is granulated or molded into a desired shape and foamed by heating to 720W850°C in a rotary kiln.
