Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare an inorganic glass foam having uniform foams at a low temperature, by incorporating a glass powder with a mixture of glass powder with a blowing agent with an alkali silicate and a soluble salt of phosphoric acid, and heating the resultant mixture.
CONSTITUTION: Glass powder is incorporated with about 1W10wt% blowing agent, e.g. calcium carbonate, and about 1W40wt% expressed in terms of the solid content, alkali silicate, e.g. sodium silicate, and about 0.2W2wt% expressed in terms of P, soluble salt of phosphoric acid, e.g. disodium hydrogenphosphate. The resultant mixture is then granulated or molded into a desired form and foamed at about 720W850°C in a rotary kiln, etc. According to the method, an inorganic uniformly foamed granular glassy foam having improved strength is obtined. The foam is used as a heat insulating material, sound absorbing material, etc.
