Abstract

PURPOSE:To make a reaction uniform during foaming by heating and to reduce ununiformity in the physical properties of a foamed body by mixing powder based on a natural glassy mineral with an alkali metal hydroxide soln. and granulating the mixture while producing a water glass-like substance. CONSTITUTION:Powder is prepd. by adding 0.1-5pts.wt. blowing agent of <=20mum average particle size to 100pts.wt. natural glassy mineral. A soln. is prepd. by dissolving 15-25pts.wt. alkali metal hydroxide in 7-15pts.wt. water. The soln. is mixed with the powder and the mixture is granulated under a reaction. The resulting granules are put in a flask and heated to obtain a foamed and molded body of glass having a desired shape.
