Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a uniform shape to bubbles after foaming by heating and to obtain the titled foamed body having stabilized physical properties by mixing powder consisting of a specified natural glassy mineral and a blowing agent with an aq. alkali metal hydroxide soln. and by granulating the mixture under a reaction. CONSTITUTION:Powder consisting of 100pts.wt. natural glassy mineral of <=20mum average particle size such as obsidian and 0.1-5.0pts.wt. blowing agent such as CaCO3 is preheated to 40-100 deg.C, charged into a mixing granulator such as a rolling or rotating type granulator and mixed with a soln. prepd. by dissolving 15-25pts.wt. alkali metal hydroxide such as NaOH in 7-15pts.wt. water. The mixture is granulated under a reaction and dried at 60-200 deg.C as required to obtain the titled foamed body.
