Abstract

PURPOSE:To carry out a continuous measuring easily and rapidly, by continously supplying potassium iodide (KI) to the liquid to be measured through an unglazed cylinder. CONSTITUTION:A liquid to be measured 2 in a liquid container 1 flows in a flow passage composed of an unglazed cylinder 5 and a tubular member 9 at a prescribed flow rate set by a flow quantity control valve 13. On the one hand, a mixture of a solution 7 consisting of KI and acetic acid and KI crystal 8 are converted into a saturated KI solution in a cavity consisting of plugs 4, 4', the outer wall surface of the unglazed cylinder 5 and the inner wall surface of cylindrical member 6. As a concentration gradient is given between the saturated KI solution and the solution to be measured flowing the inside of the cylinder 5 in regard to KI, so it is eluted to the solution to be measured through the cylinder 5. Iodine is isolated from eluted KI and reacts with residual chlorine in the solution to be measured. This free iodine is electrolyzed by electrodes 10, 10' and residual chlorine in the solution to be measured is determined from its electrolytic current.
