Abstract
PURPOSE:To perform effective cooling and protecting by flowing a CO2-contg. gas at above a specific amt. per minute in a gas flow line formed of the outermost pipe of the tuyere of multiple construction and an inside pipe adjacent to the outermost pipe thereby cooling the tuyere. CONSTITUTION:A protecting gas consisting essentially of CO2 is passed through a conduit 3 into a gas flow passage formed of the outermost pipe 2 of the tuyere of the multiple construction provided below the molten metal level of a metal refining device and an inside pipe 1 adjacent to said pipe 2. The flow rate (N1/ min) of CO2 in the protecting gas consisting essentially of CO2 is determined in proportion to the inside circumferential length (piDi) of the outermost pipe and its wall thickness (T). More specifically, it is set at above 400XpiDi(cm)XT(cm). The outside circumference of the pipe 2 is enclosed densely with refractories 7 of a heat transfer rate smaller than that of the refractories around the tuyere.
