Abstract

PURPOSE: To discharge an oil selectively by a method wherein the thickness of an oil layer in a separating tank is detected by an A-float having a specific gravity smaller than that of the oil and a B-float having a specific gravity larger than that of the oil but smaller than that of water, and the oil is discharged by using an oil collecting pipe fitted to the B-float.
CONSTITUTION: When the thickness of the oil layer in the separating tank 1 reaches a predetermined value and the difference between the heights of the A-float 2 and the B- float 3 reaches a predetermined value, a stop valve 18 is opened and the oil is discharged through the oil collecting pipe 4, a flexible tube 7, a lower flexible tube 10 and the stop valve 18. When the thickness of the oil layer is decreased with the progress of the discharge of the oil, the difference between the heights of the floats 2, 3 is also decreased. When the thickness of the oil layer is decreased to a predetermined thickness and the difference between the heights of the floats 2, 3 reaches a predetermined value, the stop valve 18 is closed by a means provided for controlling the operation of the valve 18, thereby interrupting the discharge of the oil. In this condition, the upper end surface of the B-float 3 is still located below the oil level and the upper end of a funnel part 5 is present in the oil layer, and accordingly, only the oil is selectively discharged through the oil collecting pipe 4 by the float action.
