Abstract

PURPOSE: To recover the performance of an oil-water separating element and improve separation efficiency by providing an automatic oil discharge on the upper stream side of the element and an air well for the lower stream side.
CONSTITUTION: A constant amount of oil-water mixed liquid is introduced through a pipe 4 at all times. During this time, an oil discharge solenoid valve 10, a cock 17 and a drain valve 18 are held closed and while the pressure in the oil-water separator is being maintained by a pressure holding means 15, the purified water is flowing out from a pipe 14. In an oil-water separating chamber 5, coarse oil drops float and accumulate in an oil well 6. As the oil layer increases, the surface of an oil-water boundary 7 lowers. The small oil drops which could not have been separated here go to an element 3 together with the water flow, and at a filter layer or a coarse grained layer for sticking oil drops, they float to the oil well 6 or an oil layer 19. When the level 7 lowers down to an electrode 8, the valve 10 opens to automatically discharge the oil to the outside of the system.
