Abstract

PURPOSE:To correct the dispersion of characteristics of a magnetic head and to achieve a reproducing signal of optimum level at all times, by applying the contents of a register to a gain control amplifier alternately in synchronizing with the switching of a magnetic head. CONSTITUTION:Two registers 11, 12 and a register selection circuit 14 are provided and a standard amplitude signal is reproduced from an AGC area provided to the start end of a magnetic tape 1. In this case, the optimum gain value determined with an AGC circuit 15 is stored to the two registers 11, 12 at each magnetic heat 7, 8, and when the data area is reproduced, the optimum gain value which is stored to the two registers 11, 12 is applied to a gain control amplifier 10 via a register selection circuit 14. As a result, even if any of two heads 7, 8 is during playback, the playback can be made with the optimum state corresponding to each characterstics.
