Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain purified formaldehyde having low water content, by using a varpor-liquid contact column as a thermal decomposition device for hemiformal to give decomposed hemiformal with a low water content, by controlling the temperature of wet wall column at normal temperature.
CONSTITUTION: An aqueous solution of formaldehyde is fed from the pipe 11 to the production tank 1 for hemiformal and decomposed hemiformal is introduced from the pipe 12 to the tank 1 to give hemiformal, and water in the hemiformal is evaporated by the evaporator 2 into a water content of 0.5W1.0wt%. The hemiformal is then sent to the upper part of the vapor-liquid contact column 3, the temperature of the bottom part of the column is kept at ≥the decomposition temperature of hemiformal, the temperature of the upper and middle parts of the column are maintained at < the decomposition temperature of hemiformal, and hemiformal is decomposed thermally at the bottom part of columm. Water is sent with formaldehyde by the contact formed and rising formaldehyde and hemiformal flowing down. By the use of decomposed hemiformal with low water content in spite of the operation of the wet wall column 4 at normal temperature, the desired substance with a water content of ≤100ppm is obtained from the pipe 19 in high yield.
