Abstract
PURPOSE:To suppress heat transfer at a jointing part between a feed part of a reaction gas to a quenching column and the quenching column and to prevent splach of condensed solution from coming into contact with the tip of an insertion part of the feed pipe in quenching the reaction gas containing methacrylic acid obtained oxidizing isobutylene in a gas phase. CONSTITUTION:In catalytically oxidizing isobutylene, tertiary butanol, methacrolein or isobutyl aldehyde with an O2-containing gas in the presence of steam and bringing the prepared reaction gas into contact with a cooling solution of the reaction gas condensed solution to quench a methacrylic acid formed gas, the reaction gas and a heat insulating gas are passed through a double pipe consisting of a conduit for the reaction gas, penetrating through a quenching column wall 8'', as an inner pipe 2'' and a conduit 3'' for the heat insulating gas around the inner pipe 2'' as an outer pipe, respectively, released toward liquid level at the column bottom part, the precooled condensed solution is partially sent from a spray 12'' toward a reaction gas release part, the condensed solution is partially circulated to the column top part and the reaction gas is brought through a packed material in the column into contact with part of the condensed solution in counter current.
