Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a large OFF gate current by providing a small capacity GTO thyristor in a gate circuit of the GTO thyristor. CONSTITUTION:When a transistor 2 is turned OFF, a current flows from a power source 3 to a gate cathode of the GTO thyristor 12 through a resistor 4 and a capacitor 13. The GTO thyristor 12 is turned ON. As a result a current flows through the cathode gate of the GTO thyristor 1 and the GTO thyristor is turned OFF. When the transistor 2 is turned ON, the electric charge in the capacitor 13 is discharged through the cathode gate of the GTO thyristor 12, and the GTO thyristor 12 is turned OFF. As a result, electromagnetic energy in a current transformer 8 is flowed through a transistor 11 and the gate cathode of the GTO thyristor 1, and the GTO thyristor 1 is turned ON. Since the OFF gate curent of the GTO thyristor 1 is controlled by the GTO thyristor 12, the large OFF gate current can be flowed.
