Abstract
PURPOSE:To miniaturize and to improve readout performance while improving lighting efficiency, by focusing scattering light from a light source upon a readout area on an original surface linearly by one elliptic mirror, and a plane mirror and the other elliptic mirror. CONSTITUTION:A reader is constituted including a solid-state line image sensor IS which reads picture information on an original O linearly and converts it into a picture signal, and an imaging optical system L which forms an image of the picture information on the original lit linearly by a light source LS on the sensor IS; and an elliptic reflecting mirror Mc whose 1st focal point coincides with the light source position while the 2nd facal point (c) coincides with the original surface as the 1st focusing means focuses scattering light from the light source on the original surface linearly. Anther ellipstic reflecting mirror Me, as the 2nd focusing means, whose 1st focal point coincides with a position (a) of an imaginary light source image by a plane mirror Md under the ellipstic mirror Mc while the 2nd focal point coincides with a position (b) a little bit farther from the original surface focuses the scattering light from the light source on the linear focusing part formed on the original surface by the 1st focusing means.
