Abstract

PURPOSE:To attain a low cost by collecting a light from a tubular light source having a prescribed opening on an original with an elliptic cylindrical reflecting mirror so as to attain effective utilization of the light source and to miniaturize the reader and to omit cooling components or the like for the light source. CONSTITUTION:The tubular light source 1 composed of a cold cathode discharge tube sealed with a rare gas such as xenon has a prescribed opening 2, a radiated light radiated with a prescribed aperture angle from the opening 2 of the tubular light source 1 is radiated to an elliptic cylindrical reflecting mirror 3 whose cross sectional shape is a part of an ellipse and prolonged cylindrically, the reflected light by the reflecting mirror transmits through an original platen glass 4 and radiates a prescribed part of the original 5 having picture information such as characters or a picture, and the reflected light from the original 5 onto the picture information of the original 5 is collected to the light receiving section 8 of an image sensor 7 by a fiber lens array 6 as a real unmagnification picture and picture information by one line is obtained by photoelectric conversion.
