Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent sticking of a toner in areas of a photoreceptor where developing is not required by making the developing function of a developing device ineffective when there are uncharged parts in a reversal development region. CONSTITUTION:At the start of operation, a photoreceptor 1 is electrostatically charged uniformly with a corona charger 2. When the uniformly charged area after the formation of latent images with an exposure device 3 comes into the developing region of a reversal developing device 11, the developing device is moved and reversal developing is accomplished. Further, when it is desired to form images of two colors, the unexposed region where the uniformly charged charge remains is subjected to the 2nd image exposure 5 and is formed with a latent image, after which it is developed with the 2nd developing device 12. While the uniformly charged area is in a developing region after passage of the latent image part through the 1st and 2nd reversal developing regions, the developing devices are retreated.
