Abstract
PURPOSE:To achieve a measurement of a fluid without error by measuring difference in the propagation time of ultrasonic waves and the sum of the propagation time of the waves emitted with the simultaneous driving of a pair of ultrasonic vibrators facing each other until the vibrators receive the waves from each other. CONSTITUTION:A pair of ultrasonic vibrators 3a and 3b are arranged facing each other on the line diagonally crossing the flow 2 of a fluid at an angle of theta in a measuring tube 1. A drive timing generation circuit 5 provides a drive timing signal to drive a vibrator 3a with a drive circuit 6a and a vibrator 3b with a drive circuit 6b simultaneously. A clock measuring circuits 9a and 9b measure the time from the generation of the drive timing signal until the generation of the output pulse of waveform shaping circuits 8a and 8b and generate numeral signals equivalent to the propagation times T1 and T2 of ultrasonic pulses emitted in the directions the same as and opposite to the flow of the fluid. The propagation times T1 and T2 thus measured are inputted into an arithmetic circuit 13 which determines a difference in the time and the sum thereof. Based on the results, the velocity of the flow is calculated.
