Abstract

PURPOSE: To accomplish the maximum exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) and secure the highest NOx reduction effect by a method wherein the valve body of an EGR controlling valve is actuated by means of two diaphragms, in negative pressure chambers defined with which the negative pressure controlled with a controller is induced.
CONSTITUTION: The valve body 21 of the EGR controlling valve 20 insertedly provided in an EGR pipe 2 can move in turn due to the primary and the secondary diaphragms 22 and 24, by which the primary and the secondary negative presssure chambers 23 and 25 are defined. The primary and the secondary negative pressure chambers 23 and 25 are connected respectively through negative pressure pipes 31 and 32 to a vacuum pump 30. A primary and a secondary solenoid valves 40 and 60 are insertedly provided respectively in the negative pressure pipes 31 and 32 and as well as a thermo-valve 50 is insertedly provided in a negative pressure pipe connecting the pump 30 with the junction of the both pipes 31 and 32. The solenoid valves 40 and 60 are controlled, respectively based on the outputs of a rotary sensor 81 and of position sensors (load sensors) 90, which detect the positions of fuel levers 91, by means of a controller 70 in accordance with the predetermined form.
