Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the useless enlargement of a discharge spot by forming the width of an electrode positioned on the inner and outer layers of X, Y electrodes arranged in two layers on one substrate through an insulative film to be wider than the width of the upper layer electrode in the proximity of the cross section with the upper electrode. CONSTITUTION:Many discharge cells are defined in a matrix in the gas space corresponding to the cross section between X-electrode 16 and Y-electrode 14. When driving the electrodes 16, 14 selectively, desired cell can be discharged. Here the width dy of the Y-electrode 14 positioned on the lower layer is made wider than the width dx of the X-electrode 16 positioned on the upper layer. When widening width dy of the lower layer electrode 14 in such a manner, the discharge spot can be prevented from extending in the extending direction (In the direction of Y-electrode) of the lower layer electrode 14.
