Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce fluctuation in the characteristics of a gas discharge panel and lengthen its life by making a surface portion of a dielectric layer with particles of a secondary electron emitting substance, which particles are coated with a moisture- resistant oxide. CONSTITUTION:Plural X and Y electrodes 3, 4, in which the X electrodes 3 cross at right angle to the Y electrodes 4, are arranged respectively on the inner surface of a pair of glass substrates 1, 2 which are opposing to each other. Electrodes 3, 4 are covered respectively with dielectric layers 5, 6 which are composed of low melting point glass, silicate-rich glass or the like. Surface layers 7, 8 of microcapsules formed respectively on the surfaces of these dielectric layers 5, 6 for covering electrodes. Surface layers 7 and 8 are made of particles of a secondary-electron-emitting substance, said particles being encapsulated with a moisture-resistant oxide.
