Abstract

PURPOSE: To form a spherical surface of high accuracy easily at the tip of an axis by using a specially heat-treated heat resisting steel ball as a spherical body and thereby reducing lowering of the accuracy of spherical surface caused by welding.
CONSTITUTION: In manufacturing an axis 5 having a spherical surface of high accuracy at the tip of the axis by welding a spherical body 4 to the axis 5, a heat- resisting steel ball 4 made of specially heat-treated highly accurate rolling body of ball bearing is used as the spherical body 4. The special heat treatment is made by tempering at 250W450°C, which is higher than normal heat treatment, after hardening of normal heat treating process. By using this specially heat-treated steel ball, thermal deformation due to welding can be reduced significantly, and electrochemical corrosion or local thermal deformation can be prevented in electric resistance welding.
