Abstract
PURPOSE:To produce a refrigerated mold under high cooling efficiency by burying perforated pipes into the molding sand of the mold, and blowing liquid nitrogen from the pores into the molding sand in producing the refrigerated mold. CONSTITUTION:Fresh sand and recovered sand are compounded with an agitator 1, and the molding sand 21 which is so controlled as to contain 3-4% water is prepd. This sand 21 is packed in a molding flask box 3 containing a casting pattern 2. In this case, perforated pipes 4 pierced with multiple small pores 4a are beforehand suspended on both sides of the pattern 2. After then sand 21 is packed therein, liquid nitrogen 22 is fed into the pipes 4 through two branch pipes 6 by a distributor 5, and is blown through the pores 4a into the molding sand, thereby refrigerating the mold 7. After the pattern 2 is removed, molten metal is poured, and a casting is prepd. Since no binders are used for the sand 21, knocking-out after the casting is extremely easy, and the rate of recovery of the molding sand is extremely high.
