Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a good joint at less pressure by using a negative electrode provided with a lithium metal layer pressed and stuck onto an electric collector covered with specified metals. CONSTITUTION:A negative electrode is fabricated in such a way that a lithium metal is pressed and stuck onto an electric collector covered with a metal which is easy to alloy with lithium, such as silver, indium, lead, and so on, or a lithium metal. For example, the negative electrode is fabricated in such a way that one side of stainless steel substrate 11 is covered with a lead layer 21 having a thickness of about 5mum, and then a lithium metal 12 is pressed and stuck at a pressure of 100kg/ cm<2> onto the lead layer 21. A positive electrode 13 comprising the mixture of manganese dioxide, acetylene black, ''Teflon '' is pressed and stuck onto other side of the stainless steel substrate 11. By these procedures, a bipolar electrode is constructed. This brings a good joint of larger area lithium metal at less pressure.
