Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a uniform and good image by applying electrostatic charging uniformly on the surface of a photoreceptor prior to formation of a continuous image, and controlling the uniform electrostatic charge holding time until the start of image formation in accordance with the pause time of the photoreceptor. CONSTITUTION:The rotation of a photosensitive drum 1 is started and at the same time, voltage is applied on only the primary corona discharger 13, by which the drum 1 is electrostatically charged uniformly. The discharger 13 is turned off and the drum 1 is rotated prescribed times. During the rotation of the drum 1, the surface of the drum 1 is irradiated by all of a preexposure lamp 11, a blank exposure lamp 14, and a full exposure lamp 16. A rotation control means 23 controls the rotation of the drum 1 in accordance with the count number of a timer means 22 memorizing the pause time of the photoreceptor. Next, all the corona dischargers 13, 15, 18, destaticizer 12, etc. are turned on and the drum 1 is rotated at least once, after which the regular image formation operation is carried out. Thereby, uniform and good images are obtained.
