Abstract

PURPOSE:To effect constant and uniform discharge so that any irregularity in charge and image upon the subsequent latent image formation may be prevented by uniformly discharging the residual charges in the surface of an electrostatic latent image carrier with the use of a conductive member. CONSTITUTION:There are arranged on the surface of a drum-shaped photosensitive element 6, which is made rotatable in the direction of arrow, a cleaning blade 7, a conductive brush 8, and a corona discharger 1 which has a plurality of grids 4 and a corona dischage line 2 built in a shield plate 3. If the discharge is accomplished with such construction, the surface potential (a) (partially at about 2000V) initially having a means value of about 300V and considerable roughnesses is discharged to a level of about 200V, after having passed through the conductive brush 8. And, the surface potential is further discharged by means of the corona discharger 1 supplied with an AC voltage until it assumes a uniform value of about 0 volt. Incidentally, the conductive brush may be replaced by conductive rubber rollers.
