Abstract
PURPOSE:To stir a slag effectively even in melting a low-carbon steel by a method wherein a mixed gas is top-blown while swinging a lance in a pendulum-like manner with reference to the surface of a molten steel bath. CONSTITUTION:In a top-blown converter process for steelmaking a mixed gas consisting of oxygen gas and an inert gas is top-blown while singing the lance in the pendulum-like manner with respect to the surface of the molten steel bath. Consequently, the effective energy of impingement of the top-blown gas against the molten pig iron is increased, the slag is stirred effectively and the CO partial pressure (Pco) of the atmosphere inside the furnace is lowered. Accordingly, it becomes possible to contrive to reduce the degree of oxidation of the slag and enhance the yields of Fe and Mn, even in the case of melting a low-carbon steel.
