Abstract
PURPOSE:To desulfurize molten metal effectivity, by blowing an inert gas, or mixed gas of an inert gas with oxygen, both together with desulfurizing agent into a bottom-blown converter through a bottom tuyere at the beginning of the steel refining. CONSTITUTION:An inert gas such as Ar, or N2, or an inert gas contg. O2 gas is blown together with desulfurizing agent such as lime etc. into a bottom-blown converter having been charged with molten cast iron through the inner pipe of a double pipe provided at the furnace bottom. At the beginning, FeO is reduced with Si, Mn etc. because the molten metal contains still a large amount of Si, Mn, and the desulfurization is effectively accelerated because oxygen partial pressure is low and few conditions preventing desulfurizing reaction are present. Being used in decarbonization, charge of iron ore for oxidation refining through the furnace opening causes no increase in harmful oxygen partial pressure so that effective desulfurization is performed.
