Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain an optical fiber which permits easy removal of strains by twisting tension and covering pressure by winding the optical fiber on the outside circumference of a pipe expanded by being applied with pressure in its longitudinal direction and further providing a covering material and evacuating the inside of the pipe. CONSTITUTION:With one end of a pipe 1 held closed, an end plug with an injection port is mounted to the other hand, and a gas is injected into the pipe 1 through this injection port so that the pipe 1 is pressed from its inside and is bulged. An optical fiber is wound longitudinally on the outside circumference of the pipe 1 which is made larger in outside diameter in this way, and further a covering 3 is provided on the outside circumference thereof. Thence, the inside of the pipe 1 is evacuated through said injection port, thereby restoring the original outside diameter of the pipe 1. As a result, the winding force, covering pressure, etc. having been exerted upon the fiber 2 are considerably reduced, the strains having been generated in the fiber 2 are eliminated, microbending is eliminated, and the optical fiber cable of good transmission characteristics is obtained.
