PURPOSE:To orientate the break point of an optical fiber with high precision, by incorporating current oscillators for fault search having natural frequencies corresponding to a cable connection box for submarine optical cables and respective submarine optical repeating installations and by utilizing the technique of wavelength multiplexing. CONSTITUTION:Current oscillators 26-29 for fault seach have frequencies f0, f1, fj and f0, respectively and are arranged in a transmission terminal station 1, an optical fiber connection box 2, an optical fiber repeater 3, and a receiving terminal station 4. A current level measuring equipment 36 which monitors the signal of a wavelength lambda3 sent from the fiber connection box 2 is provided in the terminal station 1, and a level measuring equipment 37 which monitors the signal of a wavelength lambda2 sent from the fiber repeater 3 is provided in the receiving terminal station 4. Consequently, if a fault point is in the side of the terminal station 1 from the connecton box 2, the fault is detected by the terminal station 1; and if a fault point is between the repeater 3 and the terminal station 4, the fault is detected by the measuring equipment 7 in the side of the terminal station 4.
