Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect a failure generating area simply, by using an optical fiber cable for signal, by transmitting an inherent signal during the range of failure, if failures such as intermission of transmitting signals or lowering in signal level takes place. CONSTITUTION:If a failure takes place at a point P of an optical fiber cable 21 for signal, an optical signal from a repeater 30 is not inputted to a repeater 31, and an input signal in a detecting circut of the repeater 31 is turned off, and failure signal from a failure signal generating circuit is outputted and it is inputted to a receiver 4 via optical fiber cables 22-2n for signal and a repeater 3n. The receiver 4 converts an input optical signal into an electric signal, which is applied to the failure detecting circuit to identify where the failure signal comes and the identified signal is outputted to a terminal 19. Further, if a transmitter 1 is in failure, a failure signal is transmitted from the transmitter or a repeater to the receiver 4 to identify where the output comes from and the output is given to the terminal 19.
