Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve fixing sensitivity and storage stability without impairing color development sensitivity, and to enable both negative and positive images to be selectively obtained, by forming a light and heat sensitive recording material using a cobalt complex and having a specified combination of layers and a specified composition of each layer. CONSTITUTION:A basic substance-generating layer 2, an interlayer 3, a color developing layer 4 are formed on a substrate 1. The layer 2 consists of (a) a cobalt (III) ammine complex or amine coplex, (b) a multinuclear quinone having absorption in 400-550nm wavelength region as an oxidant, (c) a hydrogen donor for causing photoinitiable redox reaction with said (b), (d) a chelating agent, (e) a substance generating an acid on irradiation of >=300nm wavelength light, and when needed, a binding agent. The layer 3 is made of a water-soluble or emulsifiable resin, and the layer 4 consists of (g) oxidizable leucoaminotriarylmethane, (h) an acidic salt of a strong acid, (i) hexaarylbiimidazole activated by absorption of ultraviolet rays to give an oxidant for said (g), and further, when needed, a binding agent.
